Crumblelegs & Cabins

We watched a mountain hump swell our way (Crumblelegs!)
It grew, horizon sunset and 2 drum plates (Crumblelegs!)
Harmful looking plates shouted drum rhythms we only heard (etc.)
and to that: the crumblelegs responded with bird chirps
That was a sinister device of hell or worse.
So out of cabins we ran to hide under bush.

It wanted us to see something and impression leave
So planting hooves, the legs ran 'til they snapped.
The plates, haughty, left their sound and the doomed scene
Legs spurting glum blood and crumbling dust
Its imitation of us, the legs in fleeing
The head (and its two nubbly horns) turned upside down and snapped.

Something like thistle down and weed thorns were left
When the innards blew out like a shoe come off
and had to sweep floors for hours, ridding the dust.
